What we do

 1.   The Original 40

We aren’t looking to reinvent the wheel; we just want to keep alive the way we were taught.

By teaching the Original 40 Gokyo no Waza—including the techniques now sidelined by modern sporting rules—the Judo we practice is far more transferable to those looking to bolster their game in BJJ, MMA, or other grappling disciplines.

2.  Community Safety

Judo’s most practical application is the ability to fall safely. We teach Ukemi (breakfalling) as a functional life skill for balance and injury prevention.

Context:

 BJC (Kata, Foundation, Etiquette)

BJA (Olympic Path)

Affiliation & Governance

St James Judo Club is a founding member of the St James Judo Association (SJJA).

Our technical standards and grading syllabus are formally governed by the Association to ensure the preservation of the original 40 Gokyo techniques. St James Judo Association is a trade name of 55 Spears Ltd.
